Though often singular
There’s usually two of me
I’m heavy and smooth and strong
And known for symmetry
I’m practical by nature
My purpose not in doubt
Women and animals use me
And Samson, roundabout
A common household word
Heard in days of old
But an instrument of death
This too I am told
Once mentioned as a threat
A deep dark watery grave
Up to my neck in trouble
Our Lord this warning gave
My sound in heard no more
Distinctive though it be
Two Gospel writers mention
That Jesus spoke of me
An angel once picked me up
A prophecy long ago
If by now this puzzle you’ve solved
